When a musician refers to her own debut album as a “monster” you know you are in for a dark ride. Unexpected in this case is the Nick Cave-inspired singer behind the music the beautiful Anglo-Italian Anna Calvi.
Born in London to an Italian father she describes as musically ‘obsessed’, Calvi’s dramatic and romantic music was recently shortlisted for the BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll. Since its release her self-titled debut album has sparked predictions on her impending fame.
Currently on tour, Calvi will be passing through venues in locations that include New York, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Toronto, Madrid and Lisbon as well as music festivals in Poland and Norway. The great thing is that her three singles can be heard online.
