When an espresso machine is named after a man who founded an espresso empire, you know it better be good. A preferred method for many coffee purists, the lever and piston system developed by Achille Gaggia allows you to manually pump hot water through the coffee grounds. In addition to the professional lever, the Achille offers two separate baskets for making single and double-shot espresso, but true coffee gurus probably won’t be impressed by the option to use either ground coffee and pods in the machine.
While it’s inspiration is classic and its look vintage, the Achille has a Turbo steamer and is able to put fear into stove-top mokas as it pumps out one shot after another without pause. It also has a timer so you can preheat the mechanism to when you wake up and it includes my favorite secret ingredient for any amazing espresso experience – a cup warmer. I might be more of an espresso drinker than espresso expert, but considering that home-barista.com gave the Achille its highest score ever for a lever machine, I’m sure Achille would be quite proud of his namesake.
