An Italian old proverb says that it’s variety that makes life beautiful. Italian creative duo Laura Fiaschi and Gabriele Pardi of Gumdesign have turned this idea into a unique design table with the Il Capo dinner table.
Produced by Silik, the Il Capo table proves that dualistic design can still be cohesive. The straight lines of a minimalistic white table suddenly curve into the gold ornamentation of a baroque design. At just over 6 feet long, this study in dualism offers an ironic play on the formality of a traditional dining room table. From its minimal white gloss lacquer to fancy gold and silver leaf, Il Capo manipulates form and meaning. Since the word “capo” can refer to either a boss and leader or to the head of a table, the name of this design plays with mealtime power relations. So, choose a side at this hybrid table to show your fellow diners who’s the boss!
