Only a powerhouse like Ducati could make something smaller, but call it super. Intended as an introduction to Ducati’s high performance line, the new Ducati 899 Panigale is described as a “Supermid” bike. In other words, it’s more expensive than an entry-level Monster motorcycle, but smaller and less expensive than the brand’s flagship Ducati 1199.
To make this downsized bike easy to ride, Ducati has introduced a new Superquadro engine with a revised bore and stroke. The result is an impressive 148 hp with a torque of 73 lbs/ft and a dry weight of 372 lbs. Since Ducati’s aim has long been to bring technology that’s used on the track to the road as well, it’s no surprise that the 899 also features Ducati Quick Shift technology, Traction Control and Electronic Braking Control. Sharing the 1199′s silhouette and monocoque construction, the Ducati 899 is available in red with black wheels or white with red wheels.
