It turns out Ferrari has had something very special in the works under its hood. With the new Ferrari 458 Speciale set to debut at next month’s Frankfurt Auto Show, the Italian automaker has managed to combine the sportiness of a 597 horsepower 4.5 liter V8 engine with an incredibly ultralight dry weight of 2844 pounds.
Featuring an updated silhouette, the Ferrari 458 Speciale has been designed to perfectly comply with the laws of aerodynamics without, thanks to the involvement of Pininfarina, sacrificing aesthetics. These improved adaptive aerodynamics contribute to the Speciale’s incredibly fast 0-62 mph acceleration in less than 3 seconds. While the innovative technology is clearly directed in the service of sportiness and speed, this special model hasn’t forgotten about safety and handling. For example, it has a new slide slip angle control system (SSC) that is integrated with the car’s electronic differential to analyze slip in real time and automatically adjust for better traction and control. With a faster speed and better manageability, the Ferrari 458 Speciale proves you can be light, but still be a heavyweight in the world of supercars.
