A voyage through the coolest store on Abbot Kinney Blvd.
On weekends I love going to Guild, a cute boutique shop and gallery on Abbott Kinney, that reflects my personality in many ways.
Guild is a place where you can find Men’s and Women’s clothes as well as accessories, jewelry, shoes and one-of-a-kind vintage watches. Not to mention the Art. This painting right behind me is actually a photo by Kamil Vojnar.
Born in Moravia, Czechoslovakia, Vojnar’s unique approach uses layers of images taken from different photographs and textures. Sometimes his work is layered on canvas creating one-of-a-kind pieces, but other times he creates limited edition series by layering the images on fine art paper. Either way he varnishes his work with oil and wax and sometimes adds to it with oil paints…
In an atmosphere like this it’s hard not too feel like you’re in Europe… I gazed around at all of the collections selected so carefully, from the best emerging European talents (Giada Forte, Anne Demeulemeester, Haider Akerman, Dark Shadow) to Japanese talents (Mihara Yasuhiro), all of it mixed in with a selection of JBrand Denim, Current Eliott and R13 Jeans and items from local designers. I feel a connection and passion for what is beautiful, for what makes an item an art piece.
It’s hard to decide what my favorite pieces are, but I’m definitely drawn to this Greg Lauren Jacket (nephew of Ralph Lauren) …. this very (eh..hem) expensive piece has the coolest fit and original stitching. Guild and another two stores in L.A. are exclusive carriers and I wish I could afford to be an exclusive wearer….
I couldn’t help but fall in love with these Italian Ballerina Slippers. They’re bohemian, yet so elegant and also extremely comfortable, like a sock. Another pair of shoes I couldn’t get my eyes off of were from LD Tuttle…irresistibly sexy (like most things made in Italy!!).
I could browse here for hours, but have to go…What I really need is a cool leather Jacket from Giorgio Brato and a colorful soft Faliero Sarti.
I can’t leave without browsing pieces by Ugo Cacciatori and choosing this great men’s bracelet as a special Christmas gift…
God bless Venice, California. With Abbott Kinney’s avantgarde stores, and my favorite restaurants I feel like I’m at home, (beh…almost!).
