We normally think of two things when we talk about the desert: heat and sand. Instead, in “Obtainium – Tales from the Desert” Italian artist Nicola Carigniani seeks out and photographs the hidden side of the Californian desert.
His project consists of photographs which portray the daily life of everyday people in the California desert with all its bright and vivid colors.
Life in the desert is not easy; extreme temperatures, dangerous animals, loneliness and isolation all make for a difficult situation that is far from friendly. Karen, Bobbie and Shari are some of the protagonists in Carigniani’s photographs and they share stories which recount fragments of their lives. While the people and the landscapes are so real that the viewer is immersed in the scene, at the same time Carigniani shows us a bit of daily life that we can hardly imagine.
