Wool Ferrari

In 2006, after 10 months, 12 miles of yarn and a welding torch, Lauren Porter finished a project that continues to fascinate both crafters and car enthusiasts: a knitted Ferrari built on a hand-welded frame.

Why did she choose this as the final project for her honors degree? On her homepage Lauren explains, “I created a Ferrari because it is instantly recognizable and the opposite of what people expect from something that is knitted.”

While it might be missing the horsepower, the life-size creation continues to drive the aspirations of the craft-obsessed and the imagination of Italian car enthusiasts.
