Among the things Italians do better, design and food are definitely at the top of the list. If you think about a combination of the two, the first thing that comes to mind is probably food design, but that’s not the only way these two Italian talents intermingle. Mediterranea, the new dish collection by Studio Natural for Marino Cristal is possibly the most unexpected mix of italian design and cuisine.
Have you ever wondered what it would it be like if the plate you were going to eat off of told you what to serve? The award-winning duo of industrial designer Marco De Santi and graphic designer Alessandro Paoletti bring us dishes that are reminiscent of pie charts and suggest the ratio of the different food groups that should be included in any given course of a meal.
The collection includes three types of dishes that help you to follow a healthy and balanced diet: one for the “primo” [first course], one for the “secondo” [main course] and one for the dessert. The colored sections of Mediterranea are not only useful, but also bring a touch of color to your table. Designed in dots and lines versions, you can create different patterns by layering the variously sized dishes. If you want to have a mediterranean style meal, just follow the directions and you can’t go wrong!
