Unique, bold, and passionate are the words Missoni uses to describe its lifestyle hotel brand developed in partnership with the Rezidor Hotel Group. The March debut of the Missoni Hotel Kuwait, which overlooks the Persian Gulf and the Kuwait City skyline, shows how the iconic brand is embracing a global redefinition of Italian style.
As part of their mission to “make the world more beautiful and comfortable,” Rosita Missoni and Matteo Thun have created a stunning space that features the signature Missoni stripes and zig-zags in shades of turquoise, gold, and purple. This décor is backed up with five-star services and amenities such as an international staff that speaks a total of 14 languages and a magic mirror that transforms into a television.
Located in a luxury shopping complex, the space is defined by the contrast between the lacquered surfaces of bright bedside tables, the thick fabric of an Eero Saarinen Chair, and the intricate black and white design of Missoni wallpaper, all of which creates artful layers of textures and patterns that are unusual for a hotel. At the same time, the 169 multi-colored rooms remain visually cohesive thanks to a set of small, repeating details, such as an intricate mosaic, which replicates Missoni’s knitwear designs.
In the bathroom, the plush Missoni robes give a whole new dimension to the ethical dilemma of stealing hotel toiletries and slippers. Other individual touches include Nespresso machines, a range of bespoke bedspreads, and the same Hans Wegner chairs and Philippe Stark lamps that Rosita Missoni uses at home. This mix of Italian flair, Kuwaiti inspiration and international luxury offers the illusion that guests are staying in a comfortable home, albeit one with a Maserati limousine in the driveway.
