Pipistrello and Mini Pipistrello Lamps | Gae Aulenti x Martinelli Luce
A memorable piece of design history, the Pipistrello Lamp was created by Italian designer Gae Aulenti in 1965 for Martinelli Luce. A cult object because of its innovative take on art nouveau design, the Pipistrello has remained popular for over a decade and today is part the permanent collections of museums around the world.
This modern icon of Italian design takes its inspiration from the shape of a bat [pipistrello]. The sections of the lampshade, crafted from white opal methacrylate, clearly evoke a bat’s wings. The base is available in more than three different colors and has a telescoping neck that allows you to adjust the height of the shade. Martinelli Luce has also recently released the Mini Pipistrello, a smaller version with the same massive personality as the original.
