“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.” - Harvey MacKay
How many times have you found yourself wondering “am I really making the most of this moment?” Well, the Wise O’Clock by Emanuela Berardi helps us remember that time is far too important too just let slip by.
Emanuela Berardi, a freelance Italian architect came up with the idea of this original clock when she decided she wanted to make an instrument which would remind people of the importance of every single second of a normal day in their lives.
Part of what makes this project so special are that the numbers of the clock are replaced by words of Harvey MacKay’s famous quote. As your eyes move around the dial of the clock the words become increasingly illegible, a design decision made to make you think about time, how its measured and how its perceived. By the end you even feel its instability, the same feeling that “you sometimes get when you realize you are wasting your time.”
