Drawing on the name of the skull in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Vión studio brings us the Yorick lamp, a darkly playful and well-designed take on our current obsession with skulls.
Hand-crafted in Italy, the white or black ceramic exterior of the Yorick lamp emits a warm LED light from its center. By re-imagining the decorative function of ceramic skulls Italian designers Viviana Furlanetto and Carlo Zambon seek to remind us that “the spirit of the body is light.” The sculpturally stunning design is fitted with a cloth-covered power cord that is available for either European or British outlets. It’s the fun way to visualize the classic story of human light and darkness in a modern design object.
